In an effort to increase fuel economy, the 2015 model reduces curb weight by up to 750 pounds through the extensive use of aluminum in the body structure and high strength steel in the frame. The only major component of sheet metal not made from aluminum is the firewall. Ford expanded the EcoBoost line with a new 2.7 L EcoBoost V6 engine. A new 3.5 L Ti-VCT engine replaced the 3.7 L as the entry-level V6 offering. The 5.0 L Coyote V8 and 3.5 EcoBoost V6 engines were continued from the previous generation.
